4일(현지시간) 전 세계 곳곳에서 온 추기경 107명이 이탈리아 로마에 있는 바티칸에 모여 첫 만남을 가졌어요. 지난달 28일 로마가톨릭 교황 베네딕토 16세가 스스로 물러나면서 추기경단은 새로운 교황을 뽑게 됐지요. 이날 추기경들은 새로운 교황을 뽑는 비밀 투표인 ‘콘클라베’를 언제 열 것인지를 정했어요.
베네딕토 16세의 마지막 알현식이 열린 바티칸 성 베드로 광장에는 가톨릭 신자 10만 여 명이 모여 교황의 앞날을 축복했습니다. 베네딕토 16세만큼이나 사람들에게 존경받는 새 교황은 언제 탄생할까요? 현지 언론에 따르면 11일에 콘클라베가 열릴 가능성이 높다고 하는데요. 누가 새로운 교황으로 뽑힐지 지켜보아요.
